What Andrei Wrought

I started my short story about the woman who falls in love with a model because of his blog. The names may change later and it has no title, but I thought I’d post the first few rough paragraphs. Hopefully, this won’t end the way all my stuff ends…sitting in limbo unfinished because I’m tired of it. LOL Feel free to rip me to shreds all you writers and readers of fiction. If I can make this better through your nagging efforts, I will. So here’s what Andrei Andrei’s blog sparked in me:

The faces all started to look the same after awhile. All of them were beautiful, but none of them were a stand out. McKenna clicked on the ‘next page’ arrow and watched the next set of beautiful faces load on her monitor. She needed a muse in order to begin work on her book. She glanced at her outline again. Andre, the hero of her story, was dark haired, with dark eyes and sculptured cheekbones. McKenna needed a real face to inspire her, so she was clicking through pages of handsome men at an international modeling agency’s website. Thus far, none of the men had eyes that drew her. The eyes had to be just right. She wanted to look in them and imagine them filled with desire. The face itself wasn’t all that important. Round, angular, square jawed…

Whatever, McKenna thought with a sigh as she clicked to the next page. Some of the men on the page weren’t that attractive to her. None had eyes that drew her. She got to the last page without seeing a single man who was right for her character. She eyed the set of links on the home page of the agency and, with a sense of resignation, she clicked to the next agency’s website.

The first few pages of photos were exactly like the countless pages she’d already viewed. The men were handsome, beautiful really, but their smiles were posed and never reached their eyes. The eyes themselves were flat and uninspiring.

Where was the passion, the fire? she thought with a frown. The men were all of Italian heritage, yet not one looked like he had it in him to rip a woman’s clothes off.

Disappointment began to set in, and McKenna clicked through the pages more quickly, barely glancing at the models now. She decided they must all be gay. They had to be. They were so cookie cutter with their beautiful faces and cool demeanor. Thoughts of a grilled cheese sandwich were becoming more intriguing than all the models put together, when a picture in the center of her monitor caught her wandering attention.

The photo didn’t seem as posed as the others. The man in the photo was dressed in a leather jacket and a rolled neck sweater. He was swinging a fine leather suitcase out of the trunk of a shining Mercedes Benz. His face was angular, high cheekbones, defined jaw, stubble on the chin hiding a dimple. He was not much different than the hundreds of men she’d seen already, except for his eyes.

They were crinkled a little at the corners, as if he was looking into the sun, and the smile on his lips found an echo in those dark depths. As McKenna looked more closely at the photo, she could swear she saw little flames in those eyes. Even better than that, the expression in the brown irises made her melt like ice in the sun. Passion radiated from his eyes and face, the desire almost tangible.

McKenna’s breath caught in her throat. Those eyes speared her and turned her into mush. She instantly wished she was the woman he was looking at. Her bottom lip snagged between her teeth as she looked at the name beneath the photo. Raphael Antonelli. Very Italian. Her breath came rushing out as she realized his name was a link. He had a website.

Feeling as if she was standing on the edge of a cliff, McKenna clicked the link. Techno music spilled from her speakers as photo after photo of Raphael Antonelli filled her computer screen. With each photo that flashed by, she became more convinced that she’d found her Muse. When she clicked on the button labeled ‘Contact’, she found an email form and yet another link. Raphael Antonelli had a blog.

Presents from Scotland

So this really hot guy half my age sent me presents. It was totally sweet of him, but he’s like that…obviously a giver. My daughter and I haven’t decimated all the chocolate yet, but it’s obviously been ravaged. It’s funny to us that the Cadbury chocolate bars have different names than they do in the US. Well, they are different kinds of bars than we have too.

The candles, shower gel and scent are all really nice too. They smell a lot like Fallen Angel, this perfume a co-worker brought me from England many years ago. Fallen Angel came from Pecksniff’s a bespoke perfumery. Last year, I contacted Pecksniff’s online in an effort to get more Fallen Angel. No dice. They don’t make it any more. So, I was even more delighted by the stuff Darrie sent me because it smells so like Fallen Angel which I adore.

There was another gift in the package which maybe I shouldn’t talk about here. It was of a… ahem, personal nature. The funny thing is about items of a personal nature… I’ve never been one to use them much. I’ll give this one a whirl though just because Darrie thought enough of me to send it.

I’m much better at giving gifts than receiving them. I’m about to send my Shiny a belated birthday gift, which I hope she likes. I tried to make her a calendar, each month depicting a different character that she writes at the Bar. However, I’ve discovered that this requires high res images and I haven’t been able to get those for all of her characters so I’ve made her something else with her favorite character, Johann Kohl on it. I know it would never top the present her DH got her, a new cell phone, but hey, I’m sure she’ll like it. What’s not to like about a gift with Chris Evans’ face on it?

It’s been a present kind of season from October until now. Jen’s birthday started out October, then Darrie and I had birthdays at the end of October. After that, it was Christmas and now Valentine’s day is coming. Soon, my kid will be another year older! ACK! I so didn’t want to go there…

Well, it was awesome getting a gift from Scotland. I’m not sure how much, if any, Darrie’s girlfriend Nik assisted in the gift purchasing, but MUAH! to both Darrie and Nik. You’re special peeps, and I luvs ya!

Laters everyone!

Thursday 13 the First

What the heck is a Thursday Thirteen? I thought I’d try this to see if I like it. I prolly will. LOL So far, I’ve been enjoying the blogging world! So here are 13 things about me to start off my first TT.

Thirteen Things about Winter

1. I write…all the time. If it’s not the blog, it’s the Bar or something else.
2. I’m Emo… per my kid. She hates this about me. I say I’m moody. She says pfft.
3. I feel old…about half the time. The half where my bones ache.
4. I don’t give a shit about the state of the nation. I only care about the state of my bills vs my bank account.
5. I could probably eat Mexican food every day of the week, and I’m not even Hispanic.
6. I’m not good at parties. I hang out in the kitchen. Can you say wallflower?
7. I’ve been to auto racing school twice. Once at Sears Point and once at Laguna Seca.
8. I learned how to swim (sort of) at the age of 26 thanks to 2 teenagers, Jason Marquez and J.J. Jones. (Thanks guys!)
9. I met the love of my life on the internet at KNAC.com. His hair is longer than mine.
10. I love creme brulee. Apparently, all my best female characters do as well.
11. My favorite smells are fresh ground coffee beans and Lovespell.
12. I collect giraffes because of a fictional character who looks like Marcus Schenkenberg.
13. I was born on Halloween.

Marcus Mondays

Shiny came up with a great idea today. Instead of us bitching and moaning about yet another sucky ass Monday, we are gonna share a lovely picture of Marcus and make it a Marcus Monday. Because whoever your deity is, he/she knows, that Marcus is beautiful and if Marcus is beautiful then looking at him should make for a positive day, ending sucky ass Mondays forever.

There are some wonderful things about this Monday. It stopped raining and the sun is out, but it is not hot. Quite an accomplishment in Southern California, sun but no heat. I like it like this though. Another positive thing, we have Marcus! WOOT! I love this picture of him. Makes me want to jump in the shower with him. Oh, yeah. And the final positive thing is that I have a few Marcus Awards to hand out so here we go…

Shiny gets 2 Marcus’ because she is the first person to love me-love my blog and post a comment. BellaDaddy gets a Marcus because he’s a friend I’ve had since high school and he leaves me comments! Woot, David! Greg gets a Marcus because he’s been posting comments too. Oh, and he um… made another friend of mine happy. I suppose I owe him a different kind of reward… er, award for that though. And finally, one Marcus to the English Courtesan, Livvy, whom I recently found online and whose charm and wit have already enthralled me. I love the way she manages to say she likes porn without saying she likes porn. Heh. There is something to be said for being a genteel Englishwoman, I swear. I couldn’t be like that. I have American genes. I think that makes it impossible to be genteel.

So, there ya have it. The first awarding of the Marcus. May you all continue to enjoy my wacky ramblings and Marcus photos on Monday and keep posting relevant comments. There is nothing better than feedback and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is and encourage it here. Thank you to those of you who have posted comments, and get on the stick! to those of you who read but haven’t commented yet. You have nothing to lose by commenting, but you will lose your chance at a Marcus if you don’t.

Laters, peeps!

Earn the Marcus

I’m back briefly because I’ve been trying to figure out how to get people to post relevant comments to my blog. I’ve decided that I will give out the Marcus Award to each relevant comment. When a person has accumulated a certain number of Marcus Awards, the number has yet to be determined, I will send the person an item from the Bar Store at CafePress. The item has yet to be determined also. So tell your friends. Read and make relevant comments. I may even give out some Marcus Awards if I can tell you brought new readers to my blog. Start earning those Marcuses! After all, no one is as cute as Marcus. Heh heh.

Laters peeps!
