The Next Big Thing: The King of Dick Lit

My pal Tara Lain tagged me to be in this huge blog hop called The Next Big Thing. You answer some questions about your current WIP, tag the person who tagged you and then tag four more people who will link back to you and four other people and so on and so on…

Me being me, first I couldn’t figure out if I could find 4 people who weren’t already tagged. (I did!) Then I couldn’t decide on the WIP. (It’s not like I don’t have a tough enough time working on 5 WIPs at the same time!) It’s not like be to be so indecisive but…I must have a moon in some weird ass phase or planet or something. Anyway, here’s my Next Big Thing!

What is the working title of your book?

The King of Dick Lit. The title came from the end of Kissing Joan Collins when my hero Logan Moore an author of mysteries became a gayrom author whom his editor Kris calls “the King of Dick Lit.”

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I wanted to write a sequel to Kissing Joan Collins but I hadn’t come up with a plot. Then someone (probably Kris Jacen) said we should all write stories about our characters going to GayRomLit2012. Then I saw the video of Jared Rackler dancing and I got this amazing idea for Logan Moore to go to GRL2012.

What genre does your book fall under?

It’s a gayrom, of course. MM contemporary

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie?

Why do people ask this? I don’t usually put famous faces on my characters. *runs to look up some hotties* Matt Bomer looks like he might work for Logan Moore. Trevor Donovan might fit for Chase Courtland. And man, would they look HOT together! *fans self*

What is a one sentence synopsis of your book?

Author Logan Moore spends a week in Albuquerque at GayRomLit tarnishing his “King of Dick Lit” crown as he dirty dances, ogles hotties, gets horny and sports wood in public all because of his irrepressible, totally luscious, crossing dressing husband, Chase.

Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?

My editor at MLR Press has dibs on this one.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It’s not finished yet but it will probably take me a couple of months to finish because I’m juggling other projects too.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre.

It’s predecessor, Kissing Joan Collins. It’s a gayrom with quirky humor and some sweet loving. I don’t know that I’m like anyone else and I almost feel like I’m being presumptuous by saying oh, it’s like this person’s book or that person’s book.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Jared Rackler’s Ass. (Don’t blush, kid!)

What else about your book might interest the reader?

It has a very masculine six foot tall hottie in a tight dress…that’s gotta count for something! 😉

Now isn’t that fun for a Monday morning?

Here’s some inspiration too! The next Encounters short story has Colin cuffed to the bed for some violet wand play. YUM.

My big holiday giveaway starts on Thanksgiving so come back then for a chance to win ebooks, print books and gift cards from lots of amazing authors! Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!

Today’s post is a plethora of advertisements for the stuff I’m doing or did. I mean, c’mon, it’s Cyber Monday, which to an old internet hound like myself who’s been out here on the net since the early 90’s, doesn’t really conjure up thoughts of sales but of ahem, sex. Still, Cyber Monday is indeed a day of sales so I have a bunch of ads for you!

First off, my 30 Days of Christmas giveaway event is in full swing. We’ve already given away ebooks and paperback books and today, I have a really special treat for readers. Today is the release day for NightShift, the newest book by Kate Douglas. Kate is a prolific and amazing author. She’s also a really great person and I’m thankful to have her as a friend. Kate’s giving away two signed copies of NightShift on my Lex Valentine blog today so go on over there and leave a comment so you’re entered to win.

Next up is the great holiday story event happening at MLR Press. Forty six books! That’s right, there are forty-six holiday stories that are out or coming out. My story Breath of Heaven is scheduled for December 15. You’ll find the video for this heart-warming holiday story right here on this blog. I’ve already read some of these and they are amazing stories. Mia Watts’s story is touching and funny and incredibly hot! Z.A. Maxfield’s story is heart-warming and sweet. DH Starr’s story is a serious tear-jerker with a belly laugh ending. And Derek Adams’s story will send you up in flames.

We all have the same cover art over at MLR Press but when it goes to the third party distributors some of us will have individual covers in order to distinguish between the stories. Cover art is the first thing a reader sees when they are browsing titles and if all the covers look the same, you might get passed over because the reader thinks they already have that book. So a handful of us did an alternate cover. I did covers for Ethan Day, Z.A. Maxfield and myself. We’re not alone though. I believe there’s other authors doing the same. Here’s the covers I created for the three of us. You can also see these over at Winterheart Design.

I’ve got one other Christmas story coming. This one is Cupid Christmas which is the last of the Christmas Cowboys stories I’ve done for the past few years at Pink Petal Books. I can’t think of another couple so it’s time to end the series of Christmas Eve hookups and HEAs at Forbes Ranch with this one last story.

This week I’m launching a new project called Lords of Aether on December 1. This is a serial story, a really special serial story. It’s by myself and authors KC Burn, Charlie Cochrane, Jason Edding, Stephani Hecht, ZA Maxfield and Jaime Samms. It’s a gay steampunk serial. None of us have any experience with steampunk so we’ve been slowly building our world and characters. I’m the only one with serial story experience and it’s been fun teaching them all about how the dynamics work. I’ve missed The Bar a lot so the Lords of Aether will help me not miss it as much. They aren’t the characters I loved so well at The Bar and they aren’t the same group of writers, but the camaraderie and sense of creating together is the same so it goes a long way to easing that little hole in my heart.  I kick off the story on December 1 with a post about my character Anthony Banning whose former lover, Imperial spy Jack Starr, has looked him up because he needs help finding his missing current lover. As you can imagine, Anthony’s a bit offended.  Here’s a trailer for Lords of Aether. I whipped this up last night so I hope you like it.

And now, since I can’t remember what else I’m supposed to be advertising (I was doing a 2 for 1 book trailer sale for this past weekend at Winterheart Design, but no one took me up on it!) I suppose it’s time to post a Marcus and head on out to work. Since I’ve been doing retro Marcus’s (ie photos I’ve posted before) I thought today I’d post my favorite Marcus photo ever.

Oh yum. I love that photo! If any of you know Nikki aka Motley aka my kid, stop on over at her Facebook page. She’s got a bit of a political protest going on on her wall.

And that’s it for my big ole advertisement post this Monday. Have yourselves a wonderful Monday and don’t forget to keep checking my Lex Valentine blog every day through Christmas Eve. Posting a comment enters you for a chance to win that day’s books. Happy Holiday Season Monday!

Romance Trading Cards

A bunch of authors are doing this for conventions. So I decided to make Tales of the Darkworld cards. Here’s a link to the site where it explains everything: Jeannie Lin, Author. And here’s the mock up of my first card. Garrick Forrester, the wizard in Breathe Me In which I hope to have out in April.

I hope to eventually do all the heroes and heroines of the Tales of the Darkworld. We’ll see how many I can afford to do in time for RT…

Happy Thursday!

Two Pimps & a Jimmy

I have to pimp two books. Two really diverse books. But I’m sure that somewhere in my readership these two books will spark someone’s interest. The first book is something my friend David from Bella Daddy pimped out. I had to go check out the guy’s blog since David was raving about him.

Outnumbered is the blog. The guy is Jason Mayo and the book is Do Witches Make Fishes? Yes, it’s a children’s book! And all the profits go to charity. In fact, the charity is one that is partnered with a charity I used to work for. So this is legit and it’s for a good cause and I hear from David that it’s a wonderful book. So all of you with little kids need to go check this out. Oh, and check out Jason’s blog. He’s a cool guy!

The other book I have to tell you about is waaaaaay at the other end of the spectrum in terms of genre. KB Alan writes some of the hottest stuff out there. She’s a fellow EC author and I love her work! (Yes, I’ve actually bought and read her books. I’m not just pimping to pimp.) Her newest book is on my TBB list and come payday will be residing in my Nookie. If you like hot, sexy paranormal romances, you have to get Keeping Claire. KB is one of those authors who is a must read.

I have to admit, I get really busy and I forget to do stuff. I keep missing posting Jimmy on Thursdays not because Jimmy’s not the hottest thing next to Marcus but because I lag and I forget. So I put Jimmy in my Outlook. He just seems the type that belongs on a calendar, doesn’t he? Someone needs to organize that. The Jimmy Thomas calendar for harried authors who like to drool. Here’s today’s offering:

Need a Jimmy for your website, banner or book cover? The website is Don’t forget your drool bib.

That’s it for me this Thursday. It’s off to the office where I am knee deep in month end activities. Oh joy! Have a great Thursday!

Hot Off the Press

You know it’s gonna be a crappy week when the temperature for Monday hits 107. That was last Monday. And my co-worker  was sick. She was sick for a couple of days poor thing. But it was a commissions and month end week for us in accounting and I spent two days alone powering on in the horrid 100+ degree heat getting stuff done. On not much sleep cause you see, I have no AC at home. Oh yeah. Talk about hot off the press. Oy.

But despite the heat and my pal Jojor’s illness, I got it all done ON TIME. Yes. On time. Man, I felt like a superstar. More month end duties today but if I can survive last week, this week should be a breeze.

In addition to what I was dealing with at the day job, I had a deadline for MLR Press. And Afterburner went to Kris Jacen pretty much on time. I’m wriggling with excitement too because these heroes are two of my favorites so far. On top of finishing Afterburner, I finished my edits for Rock My World. Ahead of schedule. I hope I made my editor Jilly happy with that! Then I made the cover of my Christmas Cowboys story for 2010. I’ll show that off on Thursday though.

Yesterday, just to make my feelings of accomplishment rise even higher, the sixth book of the Tales of the Darkworld released early. Yep Hot off the Press for real! Sunstroked is a M/M story, not quite as long as the last few books, but it’s hot and sweet and the heroes were introduced to readers in the other books in the series. And yes, to make the icing even sweeter on my cake, Common Ground will be going to print later this month! I’m so excited with all the stuff going on right now that even the high temps and high humidity we’ve had have not wilted my enthusiasm!

I’ve got lots of promo type stuff going on all month too. The first one I want to mention is the Raven Scavenger Hunt. You all loved having Mandy and Michelle guest here and now they’re having a month long scavenger hunt of which I am part. There’s lots of prizes to win so check it out!

On to a Marcus for this first Monday of October!

Oh yeah. Marcus in motion is like a work of art!

Wishing you all a cool scavenger hunting Monday!
