What Was I Thinking?

Umm, yeah. I registered for the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention. Do you know how much money that was? And how much the rooms are? And the parking? And all the stuff I have to buy (like a suitcase) because I don’t travel? And all the promo stuff I have to get?

Good thing this convention is deductable for me. Still, please don’t tell Rott how much I spent…

Actually, he has a fair idea. He already ix-nayed on the parking for 5 days at $35 a day.  “Oh, no. You can pay ME half that and I’ll drop you off Tuesday and pick you up on Sunday!”

Yeah, right. I’ll buy gas which means he better drive me in the Infiniti and NOT the little Honda. If I gotta be chauffeured, I want to be seen arriving in the luxury SUV. Never mind that it’s 8 years old. It’s still an Infiniti.

And idiot that I am…I have to be ME. I can’t just get a black suitcase. I have to get a giraffe print one. I can’t just get a black sleeve for my netbook (I’m not taking the full giraffe print laptop case I already have because I’m not taking all the accessories.) I have to get the giraffe print one. I can’t just carry my giraffe wallet by its leash. I have to get a new Dooney letter carrier bag that I can sling across my shoulders. Giraffe print, of course.

I didn’t get new pajamas. They didn’t have giraffe print ones. *grumble, grumble*

Damn it. People are gonna remember me. Even if it’s to laugh at my giraffe crap.

And did I tell you that I get to sign books? The print ones and cover flats for the ebooks? I DO! Two days in a row! OMG! I will totally feel like a real author then. But I think I need to figure out how to sign my pen name…

This is like a new world for me. I’m excited and scared to freaking death. And the money…*moans* What was I thinking? Do you know what I could do with the money? I could buy a new washing machine and a new battery for the Infiniti, both of which died last week. But no. I had to indulge myself. My ego. Well, my author ego really. Not that I have much of one to indulge but by the time this convention is through I’ll either have a little bit bigger one or what I do have will be reduced to rubble.

Have I mentioned I’m a complete wallflower who is terrified of meeting new people? Hilly remembers how I am. I would never have faced Dave Diego without her. But here I am willingly facing the firing squad of hundreds of people on my own.

Someone told me I would be okay once they slapped that name tag on me that says, “LEX VALENTINE, AUTHOR.” And maybe that is the crutch I need to lean on to make it through. I need to remember that even though I am pretty much low on the totem pole of authorship and pretty much unknown, there are SOME people out there who will recognize my name. I just have to keep remembering that I had the balls to walk up to New York Times bestselling author Allison Brennan at the Orange County RWA meeting and she made my year by looking at my name tag and saying, “I know who you are.”

Maybe that’s what I was thinking when I whipped out my credit card and paid for this convention.

Now, how about a Marcus that I don’t need my credit card to pay for?

Oh yum. God, he makes my Mondays easier. Despite what I spent this weekend. *winces*

Have a great Monday everyone!

Idea-fest

I’m late. It’s cause 1) I’m sick with a sore throat and 2) I can never make the scheduling thing work! If someone could teach me I would appreciate it!

Anyway, I had an idea-fest this weekend. Oh, I thought up all sorts of fun things. Some things I cannot talk about yet. Other things I can. One is a slight change for this blog. I’ve only had the one guest post thus far (Mandy Roth and Michelle Pillow) and they did so well with all of you that I thought we’d give TVC the chance to be a real mascot here. I came up with Wicked Wednesday where I give guest bloggers a chance to talk about vampires and vampire books and movies. But no Twilight. Not ever. Oh, no.

So this Wednesday the Wickedest author I know will be here talking about the vampire hero in her new Carina Press book Hunger Aroused. Dee Carney writes hot characters and I am a very lucky lil author to be able to call her a good friend! If you like your vampires hot and intelligent, you cannot go wrong with Dee’s book. This will give you vampire fans a chance to look at some new books coming down the pike. I also like the idea of dusting off TVC and letting him have a little “face” time. I was so tickled when Dave2 created him. Now, he’ll get to show up more often. 😉

If any of you non-author readers of my blog are interested in doing movie reviews or book reviews of vampire themed things please feel free to email me and I’ll schedule you on a Wicked Wednesday. It’s all about the vampires, baby!

Things are quiet on the home front. I screamed myself silly on Saturday when Zenyatta was beat in the Breeder’s Cup and I scared the crap out of Rott. My horses in the DerbyFever game did okay. I had a few nice wins. I’ve been stockpiling breeding points most of the year and now I’m pondering how to spend them in January. Yes, I have very devious breeding plans…

I’ve been making some new covers for Passion In Print and MLR Press. You’ll find those over at Winterheart Design as the authors approve them. Also, I’ve got two releases this week. If things go as planned MLR Press will release Honorable Silence on Veteran’s Day. It’s a Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell anthology and my novella is Afterburner. The book also features works by William Maltese, George Seaton, and Maura Anderson.

Also being released this week is Rock My World. This is my first book at Ellora’s Cave and I can’t tell you how exciting it is! This story has spawned some other ideas for me, one of which is already in the works. You can get a taste of the WIP by checking out my Six Sentence Sunday post over on the Lex Valentine blog.

Since I need to get my behind to the office I’m going to give you a nice new Marcus and head off into the sunrise…

Did I ever mention that I like his shirtless photos best? Well, I do!

Hopefully, I’ll be able to share the deets of some other parts of my idea-fest soon. I just have some stuff to work out before I spill the beans.

Wishing you all a very happy Monday!

Wooty Woot!

Sometimes I hate the internet. Traffic makes your site bursty and poofta! Your post is gone! Luckily, this time WordPress had it saved. Last time, I wasn’t so lucky.

Anyway, oh, have I got some news for you today! On Tuesday night I got a congratulatory email from the EPIC Awards committee. Both Ride the Lightning and Insolence were chosen as finalists in the EPIC Awards. This is both an honor and a shock! I seriously didn’t think I stood any chance of finaling. After all, the most popular book I wrote (Fire Season) with it’s 12+ stellar reviews, with it’s sales that made me PAN eligible, was passed over last year in the EPIC Awards. If Fire Season – a book beloved by many – couldn’t final how could less popular books I’ve written stand a chance? Yet, there they are. Two EPIC Award finalists. Who woulda thunk it? Wooty Woot!

On the writing front, I’ve finished my dark tale In the Light for the Wishing on a Blue Star anthology for Patric Michael. My editor Kris already has it and we’ve done some edits. It’s about 6500 words of Weylyn Randall. My publisher at Pink Petal Books, who really has the final say over whether I can write about Weylyn for another publisher, gave me the okay to use the horndog werewolf for this anthology that will be published by Dreamspinner Press. And really, it’s for Patric. It’s not about money or rights or anything else. But I thank Mary from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to briefly take Weylyn from his home at PPB for Patric’s book.

Next up is Christmas Wishes and edits for Unbreak Me. In Christmas Wishes you’ll get to find out why Devon’s brother Brad has been partying it up every Christmas in Vegas. If you can’t be with the one you want, then get blitzed in Vegas and forget your broken heart! Christmas Wishes has a Jimmy Thomas cover and since it’s Thursday I should really post a Jimmy image.

GAH! Wouldn’t you like to come home to find that sleeping in YOUR bed? I’d be satisfied just petting him a little. He’s so damned sexy! *fans self* If you want to see more of Jimmy just head over to RNC or Jimmy’s personal site.

Before I head off, I know a lot of you buy your books…and my books *wink* at ebook stores. One of the stores that carries my books is in the process of changing their name and their URL so spread the word and let everyone know so that you don’t miss an opportunity to buy my stuff from them!

Make note of the new URL and check out their new Twitter and Facebook accounts as well! Don’t forget, they have MY books there! 😉

I’m out for this Thursday. It’s a busy day at work for me so just kick back and enjoy the Jimmy alrighty? Have a great day!

Epic Black Car

In my Lex persona I joined up over at Romance Divas this past week. I should have done it a couple years ago when I first started the Lex journey but lagger than I am, I didn’t. So now, I’m over there and hanging with cool peeps like Jen Leeland whom you all know I adore.

Anyway, I found this post at RD about the Epic Black Car. So I clicked the link cause I’m way more curious than I ought to be. And WOWZA. Am I ever glad I clicked! This guy is funny! He’s amusing! He’s SMART! Yanno, his sense of humor reminds me a lot of Dave2 and he’s a dude from WA too so it makes me wonder if it’s something in the water up there…

I left a 100 word reply in a bid for the Epic Black Car with my bid of $50 and a pack of Blogography.com playing cards. Apparently, the owner of the Epic Black Car liked my reply. He liked the reply of the other romance author too. He liked us so much he wrote a post about romance authors. I love this dude. Seriously.

Epic Army of Man Boosters. Yep. That would be me and every other romance author out there. We. Love. Men. Some of us even love men who love men. Bah. I just love em all. They make great heroes even when they have geeky jobs and don’t have long hair. And really, I love a guy with a sense of humor. Epic Black Car Guy has a great sense of humor! So please go by his blog and check out the posts and the auction. You never know, you could win the Epic Black Car!

Today’s Marcus is a repeat but I felt like posting it cause I’m in a car mood now.

Damn. All this car talk makes me want to watch the Transporter series again. Or go on a road trip. Oh, yeah. Road trip…*eyes glaze over*

Soooo. I’m sending you all over to the Epic Black Car blog to check out the fun. Have yourselves an Epic Marcus Monday!

So Impressed

Remember that I said Jester had found me the most perfect song ever for one of my Lex Valentine videos? Well, he did. I liked the song so much that I went and listened to the whole album and then downloaded it from Rhapsody. This band is the shit. I went to their website looking for contact info and lo and behold their singer/songwriter’s email addy was there. So I emailed him and asked for permission to use ‘Nikki’ in my video. I think it was less than an hour later he got back to me and said… YES! How freaking cool is this guy?

So, now that I have Adam Cohen’s permission, here is my Pink Chair Diaries Trilogy video.

That’s two bands now that have given me permission to use their music. Since Friday is a promo day on some of the Yahoo loops I belong to, I’ll be touting the videos! I want to do all I can to get my name out there which in turn, with the videos, gets the band names out there too. It’s just a scratching back thing. I’m still waiting to hear back from singer/songwriter Dan Wilson. I want to use his song Breathless for Runaway Train. I tried it in my test video and it’s awesome, but I prefer to have permission. I just feel better if I do.

Although, the Silver Queen vid I made that I like so much, uses Evanescence, and I doubt any email I sent to any contact for them would get me permission to use the song. So I’m gonna make the video private. I really made it for Shiny Bitch anyway. I’ll think of another song that I can get permission for and then post the official Silver Queen vid.

One more thing before I go. PseudoSJ sent me a twat about a contest where they are giving away a Dooney giraffe purse. Now, I know I already have one, but this is the BIG one! The one I originally tried to get, but didn’t have the money for. So I’m entering the contest as many times as I can in the hope that maybe, just maybe, luck will shine on me this year and give me a birthday gift of winning this purse. It’s a longshot, but I have to try. The contest is at HandbagPlanet.com.

I’m home today working on my WIPs, trying to finish this Valentine story. It’s not going well. Ugh. Anyway, if anyone would like to be my beta reader, I could use a couple of people. You need a sharp eye to catch my left out words and commas, and you gotta be able to tell me if something does flow well or make sense to you. If you’re interested send me an email at winter at winterheart dot com.

BTW, this is my 200th post. Go me! Happy Friday!
